An insulin pump can help people with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Attached to a catheter under the skin, the pump is about the size of a cell phone or pager and must be programmed like a computerized device. When first starting on a pump, you may need to monitor your blood glucose more frequently and learn how to make adjustments in insulin, food, and physical activity based on your glucose readings.
