Sitagliptin phosphate (Januvia) is the first drug in a new class of type 2 diabetes medications that has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The class of drugs, called DPP-IV inhibitors, helps the body lower high levels of blood sugar. The new drug can be used alone or in combination with other diabetes medications.
